What is oxygen bleach? Oxygen bleach is sodium percarbonate: a solid, mineral-based compound that dissolves in water and releases active oxygen. That oxygen breaks down the molecules of stains such as tea, coffee, red wine and grass and lifts them from fabric fibres, which is why it is often called green bleach. Warmer water speeds up the oxygen release, and it is chlorine-free.
